Early Years
Back in 1985, INFINITI began as an elite division within Nissan. However, the luxury marque quickly made a name for itself by engineering vehicles that could go head-to-head with the American and European luxury brands that dominated the market. The brand’s secret weapon — human-centric design — became its trademark. Today, this dedication to comfort, style, safety, ergonomics, and user-friendliness shines through in every INFINITI model.
The INFINITI debuted in 1989 with two models — the sporty M30 coupe and the luxurious Q45 sedan. In addition to these groundbreaking vehicles, the INFINITI Total Ownership Experience® launched to provide top-of-the-line customer services, including roadside assistance, courtesy vehicles, and a rewards program.
Innovation and Evolution
The following years brought wave after wave of success and advancement to the fledgling brand. Its brilliantly engineered VQ series V6 powertrain was optimized to deliver both performance and efficiency. This innovative engine debuted in 1995, and went on to earn a spot on the Ward’s 10 Best Engines list for 14 consecutive years. Today, it lives on as the INFINITI Twin Turbo V6.
At the dawn of the 21st century, INFINITI was incorporating cutting-edge technology into its models for the sake of comfort, convenience, and safety. In 2001, INFINITI vehicles gained the RearView Monitor, which gives you a clear line of sight behind your car, along with the Intelligent Cruise Control, which automatically adjusts your speed and following distance. INFINITI pioneered voice-controlled infotainment technology, while in 2007, the brand debuted the world’s first Around View® Monitor, which provides 360-degree bird’s-eye view of your vehicle’s surroundings.
Present Time
INFINITI continues to push the envelope with advances in design, engineering, and technology. Since 2016, INFINITI has been partnered with the Renault F1™ Team, which has allowed the brand to advance its Direct Response Hybrid® system.
